Before any operation, you're bound to have a few questions and feel worried. Being prepared can help you to understand more about what will happen.
You can learn some information about the surgery and what to expect from life with a stoma by clicking on the Lifestyle pages.
You will have lots of support, including your surgeon, a special type of nurse called a WOCN that is certified in care for patients with stomas, healthcare professionals and any of your friends and family. They'll be happy to answer your questions and give you help in the hospital and when you go home again.
Your WOCN nurse may even be able to help you decide where your stoma should be placed, depending on your lifestyle and the clothes you wear. Please ask them anything, or share with them your concerns or feelings.
