Can I travel with my ostomy pouch?

Stoma surgery will not prevent you from travelling as long as you remember some important things:
You should carry enough appliances to last for the duration of your trip. Changing your daily routine may require you to change you pouch more often than when at home.

Flying

If you are flying, you should keep your spares and accessories in your carry-on luggage, as other bags can be easily lost or delayed in transit. You may wish to choose an aisle seat to allow easier access to the toilets on the airplane.

Disposing

Take some small plastic waste bags or bin liners.

Washing

If washing facilitates such as showers and baths are available, check when they are open.

Laundry

In case you have an accident, you might want to take some a small amount of detergent with you. There is usually a charge for doing your own laundry.

Local Food

Changing what you eat and drink can also lead to constipation or diarrhea. You should be careful what you choose to eat. You may also want to buy bottled water to drink instead of from a tap.

Beach

If you are on the beach, a sarong can also be worn which is stylish and covers up your pouch.

While sunbathing, you should only apply sun-lotion after you have attached your pouch, so that the lotion does not interfere with your adhesive.
